You've set your alarm, picked out their first day outfit, planned how to style their hair. You ran out last minute and bought (or made for your DIY masters) that perfect "First day sign." You've prepared. Maybe, just maybe you've saved yourself five minutes to take a breath. I'd say curl up on the couch, but let's not add too much pressure here.
Morning comes and your brilliant plan is coming off without a hitch, you're feeling energized. Then someone doesn't like that cereal, they wanted toast with no butter, or their hair is hurting. It's okay, you've got this.
You pile everyone in the car and FINALLY arrive at school. For some, this is going to be a breeze. They'll be excited by new toys, new friends, new teachers. For others? It will be like you've just told them the truth about Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny AND you're moving to Antartica. There will be tears. They will try to glue every molecule of their being to you, or you to them.
Here's the secret though-you're not the first or the only one. I promise. You certainly won't be the last. So while it's hard, know this. We've got you and your child. We have stickers and snacks and funny faces and new toys. We have patience in loads. So don't apologize, don't be embarrassed. Just give them a smile and a kiss, a huge I love you, and we'll take it from there. You are doing fantastic. You are doing the right thing for them. We are here to be your champion and their comforter, or the other way around.
It's one step at a time. The first step is always the hardest, but we'll hold your and their hand all the way through it.
We're ready to explore,
Mrs. Lauren
