Halloweens of yore, are you gone forever more?
This year has really thrown us all for a loop. As we discussed in last week's post...COVID just seems to be that invisible monster, lurking behind every fun event, every memorable moment-just to pop out and say NOT TODAY!
Yet, I truly believe that within all of us is the will, the power to not only survive whatever challenges are thrown our way, but to thrive in our altered realities.
We made a full Halloween blow out for our little learners yesterday. They came dressed in their costumes, they had a dance party, glow sticks, visited a "spooky tattoo shop" (washable tattoos and horrible accents by yours truly) created a pumpkin craft, had halloween themed snacks, trick or treated in the room and had a costume parade. The smiles on their faces, the energy they had was truly a wonderful sight to see.
So however you choose to celebrate this weekend (if you do) please know-your child/children will love it and have the time of their lives. It doesn't have to look the same as everyone's else's. It doesn't even have to be the same year after year. It just needs to feel exciting and special to them.
I'm calling it. I'm just going to say it. Halloween weather is 9/10 times cold, wet, miserable. So here is another suggestion-dress up in your costumes (only kids, whole family, whatever floats your boat) and have a spooky bake day. Then, Halloween kitchen dance party?! Movie or story night and munch on some treats?
I'm going to include a baking link and a pumpkin Playdough recipe. Please always remember any allergens and dietary considerations. I personally have used bananas and applesauce as a substitute for eggs. Great flavour, usually a softer texture.
(Playdough is non edible-no matter how good it smells, do not eat. doughnut eat (symbol clash for the worst jokes)
With the spookiest frights,
Mrs. Lauren
